Gary Briechle releases new book "Maine"

Exactly 6 years after the release of his first monograph, "Photographs", Gary Briechle is releasing a new photo book titled "Maine".

Gary has forged many long-term relationships with the people he has photographed since moving to Maine nearly 20 years ago. This gives his work a peculiar intimacy, as if the pictures were made by a family member.

Gary candidly documents the everyday lives of people in the small towns on the rugged Maine coastline. Most of his work is done within a few miles of his home. The trusting relationship Gary has with his subjects allows him to make particularly poignant, raw and intimate portraits.

"Sometimes I think that Maine is like my foster family; I’m not really entirely comfortable and will probably never feel completely settled, but Maine keeps feeding me." - Gary Briechle

Gary Briechle was born in 1955 in Morristown, New Jersey. He attended Colgate University and received his MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University. His work has appeared in several issues of the New York Times Magazine, and he was awarded a 2015 Guggenheim Fellowship in Photography. With few exceptions, he draws and photographs daily. This is the artist’s second monograph with Twin Palms Publishers. It is now available for pre-order and is estimated to ship December 1, 2018.

Winter is always too long.
Put the plow on the truck, stay warm, take your meds.
Get through it any way you can.
Spring is mud. Summer, the stunning but brief reward.
Then the fall into winter again.
